About

With over a decade of legal experience, Josh Stanton has successfully represented clients in the most challenging civil and criminal cases across numerous jurisdictions and at every level, including state and federal trial and appellate courts. Trusted by high-profile entertainers and corporate leaders to navigate complex legal challenges—as well as by his clients in his extensive pro bono practice—Josh is an asset to both Perry Law as well as the broader legal community. Josh also serves as the firm’s Pro Bono Coordinator, directing the firm’s robust pro bono practice.

In 2014, Josh graduated magna cum laude and Order of the Coif from New York University School of Law. Following a subsequent federal district court clerkship, Josh served as an Assistant Public Defender in Memphis, Tennessee. In that role, Josh aggressively represented clients charged with criminal offenses without the means to hire an attorney, achieving consistently outstanding results for his clients. Josh further demonstrated his commitment to serving the public interest during a two-year research and teaching fellowship at Vanderbilt Law School, where he served as the co-director of the school’s Criminal Practice Clinic. As part of his fellowship, Josh also authored the law review article, Substantive Due Process and Pretrial Detention: Implications of Strict Scrutiny for the Law of Bail, 41 Rev. Litig. 365 (2021).

Prior to Vanderbilt, Josh was an associate at an elite international litigation firm. As an associate, he assisted recording artists, professional athletes, actors, and business executives resolve a variety of legal problems. Josh was also a key team-member in the defense of a billion-dollar licensing dispute on behalf of a Fortune 500 client.

Outside of the courtroom, Josh continues to shape the legal landscape. He and Perry Law Founding Partner E. Danya Perry served as co-authors on groundbreaking and highly publicized model prosecution memoranda regarding former President Donald Trump’s activity surrounding January 6th, as well as his mishandling of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago. Josh has appeared on national news broadcasts, on channels such as MSNBC, to discuss the prosecution memoranda and his other noteworthy publications regarding the pressing legal and democratic questions of our time.

“Josh is an extremely experienced trial lawyer who is a true switch-hitter, performing at the highest level.”
